New clients

Client onboarding: from first conversation to ongoing service.

Our onboarding process keeps responsibilities, documents, and next steps visible from the start.

Getting started with Mehdiani

1. Consultation and fit

We learn about your needs, timing, entities, and goals, then identify the right scope of work.

Request a consultation

2. Engagement and intake

When the scope is confirmed, your Mehdiani contact sends the exact engagement link. You complete the requested information, review the applicable agreement, and confirm who will be involved.

Link sent directly by our team

3. Secure document collection

Documents are gathered through the protected upload workflow and organized for the engagement.

Upload files
Submitting an intake or upload does not create an engagement until the firm accepts the work and the required agreement is signed.

What to prepare for the first conversation

Start with a brief description of the work and the decision or deadline behind it. Detailed records can follow through the secure workflow when requested.

  • The taxpayer and work: individual, business, estate, or trust; the years involved; and whether you need preparation, planning, bookkeeping, reporting, or help with an agency notice.
  • What changed: a new business, ownership change, move, property sale, unfinished books, or another event affecting the work.
  • Timing: your target date, any agency deadline, and which information is still outstanding. A consultation request does not extend a filing, payment, or response deadline.
  • Existing support: whether another preparer, bookkeeper, attorney, or payroll provider is involved, and what coordination may be needed.

Organize records around the work

Individual and family taxes

Review the individual tax preparation checklist for income, household changes, investments, property, states, and payments. Note missing final forms or K-1s.

Business tax and accounting

Use the business tax preparation checklist to identify entity records, finalized books, owner activity, assets, and provider reports. If accounts are not reconciled, flag the unfinished periods before tax preparation begins.

Notices and urgent dates

Use the tax notice guide to identify the agency, notice number, tax period, and response date. Describe the issue at a high level first; send the notice only when the team requests it.

Once documents are requested, label files by taxpayer, year, and subject. Keep separate entities and personal returns organized separately. Tell the team when a file replaces an earlier version or when a corrected statement is expected.

Questions before you get started

How long does onboarding take?

Timing depends on the scope, available records, existing deadlines, and completion of the agreement and intake steps. Ask the team to confirm what is needed and the next step for your engagement.

What if I am changing accountants?

Identify the years and entities involved, outstanding work, and which prior returns and accounting records are available. Coordinate any requested transfer of records through the agreed secure channels.

Do I need to visit an office?

Consultations and client service are delivered virtually. Mehdiani is a remote-first firm serving clients across all 50 states, with Beverly Hills headquarters and an Encino location.
